Our client is a major cosmetics manufacturer and accurate data analysis is key to maintaining a competitive advantage. A huge amount of data from many sources needs to be quickly processed and accurately presented so that decisions can be made. We were approached to help with a number of projects, streamlining processing and improving reporting.
The main things that we were asked to help with were improving the speed with which data could be imported into the reporting systems, and improving the flexibility of the final reporting systems.
We used a variety of Microsoft tools to create new reporting platforms. SQL Server Integration Services and Excel were used to clean the data. We produced tabular data models in Excel to give the best possible charting capabilities, and then used Power Pivot and Power Query to create sophisticated dashboards for managers to analyse data and make quick decisions.
Time for preparation of data was reduced from days to hours. Accuracy was improved through the removal of human processing. End user reporting changed from a large set of static reports to flexible, interactive reporting suites.
